Lumileds partnered with us because of our end-to-end vision, 'More Than IT', and the approach we developed for this project. Our arguments were based on business processes and goals. A unique element of our proposal was working with a proof of concept and a parallel run to make the right choices in partnership the business when it comes to standard versus custom solutions.
How it benefited them
The scope of our assignment was a major change to the SAP IBP landscape at Lumileds. Our collective end result was twofold:
A robust, yet flexible, IBP system that's ready for the world of tomorrow. We greatly simplified the system and brought it back to the standard, so it's well aligned with business processes.
A more in-depth understanding of the supply chain.
Decrease of manual labour, resulting in more efficient work.
More effective communication on production planning and deeper understanding between individual business units and plants.
A 'boring go-live' where everything went according to plan. The runs Lumileds ran afterwards also went smoothly.
How we achieved it together
The success of this project was based on 4 key elements in our approach:
Starting with a proof of concept. That allowed us to identify which business requirements were relevant and which were not, and we managed to reduce the customisation to the core.
Engaging the business and keeping the pressure on. We worked iteratively and in a short, 3-month time frame. In alternating 'work weeks' and 'workshop weeks', we translated the proof of concept into a solution that met their business wants and needs.
Return to standard. In the workshops, we always placed the business wants and needs in the broader perspective. We listened to the underlying goals and clearly outlined the consequences of tailor-made solutions. This created support for a return to the standard.
Parallel runs. We ran a parallel run with the newly developed PoC. The business was able to test the old and new solutions for 3 months, then made a well-informed choice to go with the new SAP IBP solution.
